miart—Milan’s international modern and contemporary art fair—is now inviting galleries from all over the world to apply to its 27th edition, which will take place from April 14 to 16, 2023, with VIP preview on April 13. Direct link to the application can be found here.
Organised by Fiera Milano, and directed for the third year by Nicola Ricciardi, miart is divided in three sections—Established, Decades, Emergent—and represents the most extensive chronological art exhibition in Italy, offering Italian and international collectors the opportunity to discover masterpieces from the early twentieth century as well as creations by the latest generations and collectible design.
The distribution of spaces experimented in 2022 was particularly appreciated by the operators and will be confirmed for the next edition, with the Emergent section positioned at the entrance of the exhibition, allowing young galleries to engage with a wider public. The physical event will also be supplemented by miart digital, the online platform designed to extend and enrich the dialogue and relationships between gallerists and collectors.
After Dismantling the silence in 2021 and Primo movimento in 2022, miart 2023 continues in the vein of musical metaphors shaping the identity of the new edition on and around the word "Crescendo". In technical language, the term refers to a gradual increase in the intensity of sound in a composition; but in this context it also refers to the growth in terms of quality, participation, audience seen in the previous two editions, and speaks to the desire to continue this ascending trajectory in the years to come.
The title Crescendo also alludes to the natural world and to the vital quest for sustainable development, emphasizing miart’s commitment to green practices with a lower environmental impact as well as its role as founding member and keen supporter of Gallery Climate Coalition Italy.
As per tradition, miart will be the catalyst for the Milano Art Week, an intense program of special events and grand openings organized in conjunction with the Municipality of Milan and in collaboration with the major public and private institutions in the city, including Pirelli HangarBicocca, Fondazione Prada, Triennale Milano, Palazzo Reale, Museo del Novecento, PAC - Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, Galleria d’Arte Moderna, and many more.
Concurrently, miart’s VIP program will ensure a special reception and a first-class experience to its prestigious invitees. During the week of the fair, VIP guests will engage with a network of international artists and connoisseurs and enjoy access to exclusive tours and receptions at some of Milan’s most prestigious estates and collections, including previews of the Milan Design Week, the biggest annual design event in the world taking place from 17 to 23 April 2023.
Please visit here for an overview of the 2023 edition, including information about the sections, the Selection Committee, the curatorial team, and the application process.
Applications must be submitted online by Friday, October 28, 2022.
For more information on the application procedure, please contact: customer.miart@fieramilano.it.
