REGULATIONS

1. Themes
A. ART, ARTIST, all about: what is the art and who are the artists; art and artists from anywhere, anytime and from any field; the purpose and role of art in the society and in the life of each individual, artist or not; art for all or art for art; quality, modernity, themes and colors in art; museums and galleries etc.
B. PORTRAIT of an artist from any time.
We are expecting meaningful and clever works at a high artistic level.


2. Participants
Only individual participants, over 18 years old, regardless of their gender, nationality or country of residence.

3. Art works
Editing and adapting of the works of other artists are not allowed.
The works must be the property of the participants and must be sent only by the author himself.
In black & white or in colour; must be signed.
Good quality of images, JPG, JPEG format, max. 800 KB/work, 300dpi resolution.
No captions and texts are accepted (text means one or more letters / digits / any characters or signs).
Each participant may submit 1 (one) work on each theme.
The works may not be previously awarded or published in catalogues or media.
No works with “adult content” or regarding real individuals or organizations will be accepted, regardless of their. artistic quality; organizers own the right do not admit in the Salon works that may attempt against individual and/or collective rights - anyway all responsibility for any possible attempt against individual and/or collective rights is only on the authors -

4. Technique

It's free of choice, in 2 (two) dimensions but no photographic art or collages, no printed or photocopies or colored copies

5. Deadline of receiving works: December 26th, 2025

6. Participation
Will be accepted only ONE e-mail per participant, containing all works, requested information and documents: works, the personal photo/caricature - Max. 250KB, max. 300dpi, JPG, JPEG format and the completed and signed ENTRY FORM (in word format)

7. Awards
Three prizes,“Salt & Pepper” prize and one Nomination will be available per each theme. The prizes consist in exposure on the Salon's website of: name and surname of the cartoonist, personal photo/cartoon, the award-winning works, technique, dimensions, price/work
The diplomas and the poster of the edition will be send by e-mail to all qualified participants.
The works will be exposed if these respond to all criteria and conditions mentioned in this document.
The Jury is entitled do not award one or more prizes according to their art's criteria.
The jury decision cannot be appealed.

8. Winners
Participants whose works are selected to be awarded will be notified by e-mail.
Into max. 15 days after announcing prizewinners, they must send by e-mail their works according to all the above. mentioned conditions.
The author which don't respect rules will be replaced by the next selected author and will not be awarded.

9. Jury
The panel of the international jury will be announced soon.

11. Other specifications
The album of the Salon will be edited in electronic format, if possible.
All participants and prizewinner will be announced in mass-media.
The works will not be returned.
By submitting works and information, the authors automatically express their agreement with the GDPR (Regulation 2016/679/EU on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, applied by all European Union states). By signing the attached Entry Form, authors gives the authorization to The “Salt & Pepper” Magazine and to The International Salt & Pepper Satirical Art Salon the right to archive and process the author's personal data for the purpose of running the competition, organizing exhibitions and publishing works and information about participants and accept, for advertising, the publishing in mass-media the received works and the author's name and country, without limitation and any compensation to the authors.
The Salon and the Magazine do not sell anything, are not involved in the sale of the works and cannot be held responsible in any business transactions between authors and their beneficiaries.
Participation into International Salt & Pepper Satirical Art Salon means the acceptance of all of the above regulations.

În ediția acestui salon au aplicat 143 graficieni provenind din 39 țări de pe 5 continente, cu peste 370 lucrări.
În urma verificării respectării regulamentului au fost acceptate în concurs 162 lucrări de la 97 participanți din 32 țări.
Salonul ține să mulțumească tuturor participanților pentru dăruirea și aportul lor grafic, menținând la cote înalte tonusul ideatic și umoristic și felicită participanții calificați în concurs.

REGULATIONS

1. Themes

A. Salt and/or Pepper
B. Light and Shadow, literally or conceptually, defining:
bright/dark, beautiful/ugly, moral/immoral, peace/war, joy/anger, life/death, love/hate etc.
We are expecting meaningful and cleaver works at a high artistic level

2. Participants

3. Art works

May be done in black & white or in color
Each participant may submit Max. 2 (two) works on each theme
Good quality images of signed works

1st prize: 10 (ten) works including the awarded work
2nd prize: 5 (five) works including the awarded work
3rd prize: 3 (three) works including the awarded work
Nominated: 1 (one) work, the selected one in the first 10 ranked works after the prized works
The first ranked 10 (ten) works on each theme will be exposed on the web-site.
The Diplomas and the poster of the edition will be send by e-mail to all accepted participants

Mihai IGNAT: „satira desenată a fost și va fi gustată mereu”

 

 

Mihai Ignat (n. 1954), unul dintre graficienii satirici români cei mai premiați în lume, reprezintă generația cu experiența dublă a traiului în regimul comunist precum și cea din vremurile actuale. O viață trăită cu măsura rațiunii și demnității. De obicei mai puțin comunicativ, graficianul, probabil cu regretul excesului de vorbe în dauna desenului, a răspuns în cele din urmă afirmativ demersurilor de a împărtăși o parte dintre experiențele și gândurile care l-au făcut ceea ce este acum.

II: Domnule Mihai Ignat, în general, memoria este selectivă, reținând numai anume evenimente, restul fiind date uitării. Descoperim cu surprindere, uneori, cât de interesante și importante pentru noi au fost și cele din urmă, toate acele lucruri pe care le trecem cu vederea considerându-le inutile, inoportune sau fără importanță. Consider că aceasta este una dintre ocaziile de a face o dezarhivare și valorizare a evenimentelor din viața dvs., care să aducă o frumoasă și sper, cât mai completă imagine a întregului OM-ARTIST Mihai Ignat. Mă bazez pe sinceritatea și rațiunea dvs și, vă rog, să-mi faceți bucuria de a răspunde la câteva întrebări....

MI: Din păcate noi artiștii suntem foarte subiectivi și avem obiceiul de a exagera. Știu că răspunsurile mele nu pot fi total obiective, dar am să încerc să răspund cât pot eu de sincer. Când răspunzi la astfel de întrebări este ca atunci când faci streaptease cu sufletul...
 

II: Să pornim de la tehnicile și maniera dvs. de lucru: sunteți una dintre rarele prezențe artistice din zona ilustrației și a artelor satirice care a utilizat și poate utilizează, încă, tehnicile reproductive. O tehnică care necesită migală și rigoare. Cum se împacă rigiditatea expresiei și posibilitățile oarecum reduse de culoare ale acestei tehnici cu ceea ce simte și poate crea artistul Mihai Ignat, în acest secol al diversității și minunatelor posibilități ale tehnicii contemporane?

MI: La primele saloane internaționale am trimis gravură. Această tehnică o stăpâneam cât de cât. Debutul meu a fost în anul 1987 la Gabrovo (n.a. Bulgaria) și am fost admis la secțiunea ilustrație și gravură. Norocul începătorului.
Am vrut să particip la mai multe saloane unde trebuiau făcute multe lucrări. Între timp am renunțat la gravură și am început să lucrez în tuș și acuarelă, deoarece gravura necesita un timp îndelungat de execuție. Faptul că am renunțat la gravură este unul dintre marele mele regrete. Gravura te modelează, trebuie să „tai”mult pentru a căpăta experiență. Necesită un desen stilizat, făcut special pentru a fi gravat. Necesită și exercițiu permanent pentru că pierzi ușor îndemânarea prin ne-practicare. Trebuie să ai sculele tale cu care te obișnuiești și care îți devin un fel de prelungire a degetelor.
Nu am avut niciodată un simț cromatic deosebit, alb, negru și gri, mi-au fost îndeajuns. Chiar și azi, după ce fac un desen colorat și nu îmi place cromatica îl transform în sepia.
Când ești tânăr vrei să faci multe lucruri și strângi în sac tot ceea ce ți se oferă. Muncind mai mult într-un domeniu, pe celelalte le neglijezi. În timp, îți dai seama că trebuie să alegi dacă vrei să te specializezi. Începi să arunci ceea ce ai în sac și păstrezi doar ceea ce te definește.
 

II: Tehnicile reproductibile de tip gravură sunt mari devoratoare de timp și manoperă, necesită utilaje costisitoare și materiale speciale care nu sunt tocmai la îndemâna oricui. Pe de altă parte, înainte de 1989, existența atelierelor de gravură și utilizarea unui astfel de utilaj de reproducere trebuia să fie declarată oficial. Utilajele de acest tip erau puține și ele existau numai în ateliere ale universităților și școlilor de artă. Unde ați imprimat lucrările dvs.?

MI: La liceul de artă am urmat secția de grafică. Profesorul meu mi-a arătat primele gravuri. Lucrarea de licență a lui Ion State, gravură lemn în cap arăta o execuție perfectă pe desen de tip realist. Am văzut gravuri de Chirnoagă și Mircia Dumitrescu. Aceștia au fost colegii profesorului meu la facultate. Văzând aceste lucrări am simțit o dorință puternică de a face gravură. Nu se învață ușor gravură. Are multe subtilități pe care le înveți lucrând singur. Am început să învăț linogravura. Acest procedeu nu necesită neapărat o imprimare la presă. Linoleumul îl luam de la magazin. Linoleumul de atunci era mai „dus” și mai subțire, diferit de ceea ce găsim astăzi - care este bun numai de pus pe jos. Astăzi se poate achiziționa materialul corespunzător numai de la magazinele de artă, însa este mult mai scump. Gravura în metal îmi plăcea, iar curiozitatea mea era mare. Ajutați de părinți, eu și prietenul meu, am făcut o presă de acvaforte. Timid, am început să fac pointe sèche. Nu am simțit niciodată linia așa cum o simțea soția mea, așa că m-am întors la linogravură. Absolut toate sculele pentru gravură au fost făcute de noi iar rulourile, cerneala tipografică și acidul ni l-am procurat ajutați de unchii și rudele noastre.


II: Cum apreciați manifestările de grafică satirică din țară față cele din străinătate? Ce speranțe aveați înainte, dar acum? Cum vedeți partizanatul politic în țară față de cel din alte colțuri ale lumii? Libertatea de exprimare din România este altfel decât cea de afară?

MI: Cred că specificul evenimentelor artistice de afară este tradiția. Când un festival are tradiție, are timp să își corecteze toate defectele. Sunt festivale care numără mulți zeci de ani, festivale în care s-au lansat mulți artiști, din care unii au devenit celebrii. Mă gândesc la festivalele de la Tolentino (Italia), Aydin Dogan (n.a. Turcia), Knokke Heist (n.a. Belgia).... și multe altele care au devenit motiv de mândrie pentru localitate și organizatori. Artistul care este invitat, este primit ca un prinț. Ai impresia că te confundă cu altcineva. Peste tot ești primit bine, ți se acordă atenție, ești plimbat, dar dintre toți, turcii întrec măsura. Deci vorbim de tradiție, cu tot ce implică ea. Oameni profesioniști care rezolvă toate problemele la superlativ. Au fonduri pentru acest lucru, pentru ca salonul să își crească prestigiul în lume. Nu știu prea multe detalii, dar ceea ce le iese, este absolut remarcabil. Există Uniunea Caricaturiștilor Turci, care are fonduri pentru a face foarte multe evenimente. Au politici culturale prietenoase artiștilor. Ce să mai spun, au festivale ca afară!

Să vorbim și despre festivalurile noastre, care sunt ca stelele de pe cer. Pâlpâie o dată și se sting. Apare alta pe cer și se stinge și ea. De obicei festivalurile rezistă până la schimbarea politică. Dacă vrei să inviți prieteni pe care i-ai făcut dincolo, nu poți pentru că uniunea noastră a caricaturiștilor, nu primește niciun fond. Simți o senzație de neputință. Marin Sorescu spunea odată, „băieții aceștia care ne conduc, nu au nimic împotriva culturii, nu știu nici măcar că există”. Cei care au auzit de cultură, știu că nu scoate bani, ci doar consumă și o tratează ca atare.
Îmi cereți să răspund la întrebări care mă depășesc. Vă pot spune ce am înțeles în câteva zile la festivitățile de premiere din străinătate. Ca să faci comparație, trebuie să cunoști foarte bine problemele din acea țară. Nu cred că în România este o restricție în ați expune părerea...câinii latră, ursul merge. Poți să behăi cât vrei, nu te ia nimeni în seamă. Behăitul este interzis în cadrul partidelor care încalcă disciplina de partid. Behăie toată mass-media, dar degeaba. Conducătorii noștri merg mai departe. Avea dreptate ministrul Petre Daea când spunea: „Oaia este simbolul poporului român”.


II: Practicați cu prietenii: mini-expoziții, mini-evenimente, reuniuni colegiale etc.? Considerați că anumite lucruri trebuie să se petreacă în privat?

MI: Când am început să mă ocup de caricatură eram foarte deschis la manifestările artistice din țară. Am participat la toate expozițiile împreună cu colegii mei caricaturiști. Eram în anii '90 și toți aveam speranțe mari. Am donat lucrări unor colegi care aveau veleități de curator, Crihană, Topan iar aceștia au făcut expoziții atât în țară, cât și în străinătate. Între timp, participând la saloanele de caricatură din străinătate, am început să câștig premii și mi-am atras antipatia unora dintre colegi. Astfel, am renunțat la expozițiile organizate în țară, dar am trimis la câteva saloane, dintre care salonul de la Brăila sau la „International Salt & Pepper Satirical Art Salon”.

II: Sigur, vă mulțumim încă o dată pentru participarea la salonul nostru și sperăm că veți fi și membru al juriului într-o ediție ulterioară. Revenind, mai există cenzură la noi? Cum se manifestă ea pe alte meridiane ale lumii?

MI: Concitadinul meu Caragiale, dacă ar fi trăit într-o societate ca cea norvegiană, nu știu ce fel de satiră ar fi făcut... probabil ca aceia din „Stâlpii societății” de Ipsen. Norocul lui și mai ales al nostru, este că a trăit în România și talentul său a rodit în toată splendoarea sa. În România, în ciuda condiției grele a artistului, el poate să găsească infinite subiecte de inspirație, mai ales în satiră. Spun asta ca să arăt că România are și lucruri bune.

Să revenim la Nenea Iancu, opera sa este extraordinară și noi românii înțelegem toate subtilitățile acesteia. Și chiar dacă este o critică foarte acidă a mentalităților noastre, Caragiale este foarte iubit în România. Dacă prezentăm „O scrisoare pierdută” norvegianului, ce ar înțelege acesta din ea? Că este o fantezie cu accente grotești și multe exagerări. Asta datorită coordonatelor educației sale.

La fel se întâmplă și cu caricatura. Caricatura noastră a fost ca un strigăt de ajutor, un strigăt de ajutor sub cenzura comunistă iar în perioada de tranziție - fără sfârșit, către o „democrație”.... Cred că cenzura lor este dată de cererea publicului lor, pentru a nu-i epata pe burghezi.

Occidentalii gustă în special gag-ul, mai puțin umorul nostru de „râsu - plânsu”. De asemenea, cred că ei nu apreciază caricaturile care atacă subiecte tabu, de tipul non-politicaly correct.


II: Care este părerea dvs. privind „similitudinea” și „plagiatul” în artă, dar despre importanța lor în desenul satiric? Ce le deosebește și de ce se face atât de des referire la ele? De ce sunt atât de căutate de către unii membrii ai breslei? 

MI: Acest fenomen a început o dată cu apariția internetului. Înainte de revoluție exista cortina de fier. În România intrau foarte puține cărți sau reviste de specialitate. Majoritatea acestora erau în bibliotecile tehnice ale instituțiilor. Informația era completată de cataloagele expozițiilor unde participam. În ele erau publicate un număr minim de caricaturi. Dacă debutai în anii '80 nu aveai cum să știi ce s-a făcut în lume, în domeniu, în anii '50, '60 sau '70. În România exista o singură revistă de umor „Urzica”, cu almanahul ei. Astăzi, odată cu internetul s-a deschis larg o fereastră către informație. Putem vedea ce s-a desenat de la Lascaux până azi. Vă dați seama că pot fi descoperite toate similitudinile pământului. Unii au înțeles că orice ar desena are similar anterior. Ei au lăsat creația și au început să caute similitudini în caricatură. Am observat că sunt preocupați de cei care i-au premii, de topul caricaturiștilor contemporani și bineînțeles că la fiecare festivitate de premiere ei găsesc o similitudine. Asta înseamnă că cel care a fost premiat astăzi este un hoț care a furat de la celălalt, anterior. Dar nu întotdeauna această clasificare este făcută onest. Să îl învinuiesc pe cel care a scris „Love story” că la copiat pe Shakespeare? Când știu că și Shakespeare a avut înaintea lui foarte multe lucrări care tratau dragostea nefericită. Poate fi o clasificare foarte subiectivă și autorul îngroașă anumite trăsături și pe celelalte le ignoră.

II: Rolul artei desenate satirice este același acum, aici sau în străinătate, precum în alte perioade istorice (și în perioada comunistă)? Mai poate avea un rol modelator, constructiv în societate? S-au mai domolit luptele, s-au mai tocit armele sau interesul?

MI: Imaginea este foarte importantă în ziua de astăzi, mult mai importantă decât scrisul, pentru că viteza vieții noastre este foarte mare. O imagine bine făcută este ca un editorial scris pe o pagină de ziar. Publicarea caricaturilor pe internet a făcut o revoluție și au făcut ca artistul să nu mai depindă de edituri sau ziare. Șansa vizibilității sale a crescut foarte mult. Satira desenată a fost și va fi gustată mereu pentru că are ceva subversiv. Ea face oamenii să gândească, să se îndoiască de ceea ce li se introduce cu sila în cap, există peste tot în lume și are „slavă Domnului”, multe de spus.

Apreciind răbdarea graficianului de a răspunde la numeroasele întrebări, am redat mai sus un grupaj din interviul mult mai larg desfășurat pe o perioadă destul de îndelungată, incluzând și perioada pandemică. Se alăturează aici imaginile a câtorva dintre lucrările premiate în cadrul concursului „International Salt & Pepper Satirical Art Salon” (IS&PSAS), publicate în conformitate cu regulamentul acestuia.

REGULATIONS

1. Themes

under the Motto: „The sleep of reason produces monsters” (Francisco Goya)

or may be used, as well, the general meaning for sleeping, sleepy, sleepwalking, sleepless, insomnia, etc.

We are expecting meaningful and cleaver works at a high artistic level

2. Participants

Authors professional or not (not under 18 years old), are invited participate as individuals in the Salon, regardless of their gender, nationality or country of residence. The works must be send ONLY by the author himself

3. Art works

May be done in black & white or in colour

Each participant may submit Max. 2 (two) works on each theme

Good quality images of signed works

by e-mail: JPG, JPEG format, Max. 800 KB/work, at 300dpi resolution; by regular mail: originals Max. A3

Only works without captions and texts are accepted (text means one or more letters / digits / any characters or signs)

The participating works must not be previously published or awarded

No works with “adult content” or real individuals/organisations will be accepted, regardless of their artistic quality

Organizers own the right do not admit in the Salon works that may attempt against individual and/or collective rights - anyway all responsibility for any possible attempt against individual and/or collective rights is only on the authors -

4. Technique
It's free of choice of the artist, in two dimensions; no photographic art

5. Deadline of receiving works

by e-mail: April 15th, 2017

by regular post: February 1st – March 30th, 2017 / outside of this range the address is not longer valid

6. Participation

Will be accepted only one e-mail/envelope per participant, containing all works,

the filled in ENTRY FORM—Word format, and

the personal photo/cartoon self portrait—Max. 250KB, Max. 300dpi, JPG, JPEG format

7. Awards

Prizes will be available per each theme. The prizes consist in exposure on the Salon's website of:

name and surname, personal photo/cartoon, works, technique, dimensions, price/work as follows:

1st prize: 10 (ten) works including the awarded work

2nd prize: 5 (five) works including the awarded work

3rd prize: 3 (three) works including the awarded work

Nominated: 1 (one) work, the selected one in the first 25 ranked works

The first ranked 25 (twenty five) works on each theme will be exposed on the web-site, awarded works including

The Diplomas and the poster of the edition will be send by e-mail

The works will be exposed if these respond to all criteria and conditions mentioned in this document

The Jury is entitled do not award one or more prizes according to their art's criteria

The jury decision cannot be appealed

8. Winners

Participants whose works are selected to be awarded will be notified by e-mail

Into Max. 15 days after announcing prizewinners, they must send by e-mail their works according to all the above mentioned conditions.

The author which don't respect rules will be replaced by the next selected author and will not be awarded

11. Other specifications

The authors who want to participate into itinerant exhibition will send originals. A selection of works will be done.

The album of the Salon will be edited in electronic format, if possible.

For promotion, The “Salt & Pepper” Magazine and The International Salt & Pepper Satirical Art Salon reserve the right to exhibit, archive, publish the received works and use printed materials of those - with the name of the author specified -, without limitation and any compensation to the authors.

The works will not be returned.

The Salon and Magazine do not sell anything and does not involve and is not responsible

in any business transactions between authors and their beneficiaries.

This regulations are mandatory.

Participation into International Salt & Pepper Satirical Art Salon means the acceptance of all of the above regulations.

REGULATIONS


The International Salt & Pepper Satirical Art Salon is held by „Salt & Pepper” Magazine for
visual arts and artists.

1. Themes

A. SALT and/or PEPPER
B. HUMAN BEING
We are expecting meaningful and cleaver works at high artistic level

2. Participants

All artists, professional or not, are invited to take part in the Salon, regardless of gender,
nationality or country of residence. The works can be send by the author himself, only

3. Works

May be done in black & white or in colour
Each participant may submit max. 3 (three) works on each theme
Good quality images of signed works
In JPG format, 400-800 KB/work, at Min. 300dpi resolution
Only works without text are accepted (text means one or more letters)
The participating works could have been previously published but not have won awards
No works with "adult content" will be accepted, regardless of their artistic quality.
Organizers own the right do not admit in the Salon works that may attempt against individual
and/or collective rights

4. Technique

Is free of choice of the artist, in two dimensions, such as: graphical art, painting, digital art,
cartoon, illustration etc.
No photographic art


5. Terms

Deadline of receiving works by e-mail: January 15 th, 2013

Deadline of receiving originals: December 25 th, 2012

6. Participation

Each participant will send in the message's body, in English language,
the following information:
name and surname & pseudonym
home address, e-mail, phone number and personal web-site
personal photo/cartoon self portrait, Max. 250KB at min. 300dpi
short biography
the list of works on each theme
Each work will be identifiable on the participant's lists by:
theme, position in the list of works, title, technique, dimensions,
price (in EUR) and the associated file name
The file names will be defined as following:
theme_international code of the country_name initial_surname initial_verification
code_position in the list of works
for example: Ion POPESCU from Romania, with his own code AZ5, the work is the second in
his own list of works on the B theme.

Note: the verification code, must be an own sequence of 3 (three) numbers and/or letters, on
the artist's choice, but an only one per artist
Do not send more 2 (two) e-mails containing works and information

7. Awards

Three prizes will be available per each theme
The prizes consist in exposure on the Salon's website of
name and surname, a short CV, personal photo/cartoon, works, technique, dimension,
price/work as following:
1st prize: 10 (ten) works + the awarded work
2nd prize: 5 (five) works + the awarded work
3rd prize: 3 (three) works + the awarded work
The Diplomas will be send by e-mail
The first ranked 25 (twenty five) works on each theme will be exposed on web-site,
awarded works including.

A list of participants will be published as well

This regulations are mandatory.
The authors remains the owners of their original works if they do not send original works.
The Salon do not sell anything and does not involve and is not responsible in any business transactions

between authors and their beneficiaries.

The authors themselves will sell their works on buyer's request.
The authors who wont to participate into itinerant exhibitions will sent originals, these will not be returned.

The album of the Salon will be edited in electronic format, being available on Salon's web-site.
The participants turns over all rights of their work’s images to

International Salt & Pepper Satirical Art Salon and to “Salt & Pepper” Magazine and authorizes them

to exhibit, archive and publish those in the media and/or the Internet without limitations.

To promote The International Salt & Pepper Satirical Art Salon,

“Salt & Pepper” Magazine is entitled to use these later as printed materials with the name

of their author on these, without any compensation to authors.

The itinerant exhibitions will be announced in media and the artists will be informed about.

Participation in International Salt & Pepper Satirical Art Salon means the acceptance

of all of the above regulations.
